Upwork, a platform for freelancers, will suspend its operations in the Russian Federation for an indefinite period, as the AIN.Capital team found out from the management of Upwork in the US.
The CEO of the company Hayden Brown made a statement in which she says the reason for this decision — Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The suspension of services for the markets of Belarus and Russia will be implemented step by step:
- Over the next few days, users from these countries will not be able to sign up for new accounts, initiate new contracts, and be visible in search.
- Existing contracts in this region will remain open, but only until May 1, 2022. That is the final date for payments.
The company also says that if the geopolitical situation changes, Upwork will resume work in these regions.
