There are around Ukrainian 307,6k IT specialists, with nearly 242 thousand currently located in Ukraine. In general, Ukrainian IT industry provides for 4.9% of the country’s GDP, according IT Research Ukraine. Lviv IT Cluster conducted and shared the report with AIN.UA. We’re publishing key findings of the report.

General overview

  • There are a total of 307,600 Ukrainian IT specialists. Regarding gender equality, only 1 in 5 specialists is a woman, however, women are getting more likely to hold C-level positions — 29%.
  • As of August 2023 only 242,000 of specialists are currently located in Ukraine. But the number has risen by 6.1% compared to 2022 numbers.
  • The number of active verified companies operating in the IT industry has reached about 2,150.
  • The median income of IT specialists in Ukraine is $2,630 (technical specialists earn much more — $4,217, compared to $2,322 earned by non-technical specialists).

IT industry economy influence

  • The export revenue of Ukrainian IT amounted to $6.94 billion in 2021, $7.35 billion in 2022. And in 2023, the amount of $6.78 — $7.18 billion is forecast, which is 2.3-7.7% below the volume of exports last year.
  • Also, as of November 30, 2023, computer services make up 45.1% of the entire services exports. Despite the crisis, this is the main industry that provides foreign currency income to the economy.
  • At the same time, the turnover of the Ukrainian IT industry in 2023 (as of the end of November) increased by 0.45% — to $8 billion compared to $7.97 billion in 2022 and $7.89 in 2021.
  • Ukrainian IT industry provides for 4.9% of the country’s GDP%, and the contribution of the IT industry to the gross value added (GVA) is $5.5 billion.
