The Mask-owned Social Media Platform X has changed its rules, officially allowing adult and explicit content to be published on the platform. Users may now “share consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior, provided it’s properly labeled and not prominently displayed.”
- The new rules also apply to videos, photos or animated content created by artificial intelligence, such as cartoons, hentai, or anime.
- By default, users who are under the age of 18 or who have not provided their date of birth cannot view explicit material.
- The new rules also prohibit content that “promotes exploitation, non-consensual, objectification, sexualization or harm to minors, as well as obscene behavior.”
- According to the company, candid content will allow people to engage in interaction and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires and experiences, particularly around sexuality.
TechCrunch claims that the X platform previously did not directly ban pornography, but the new rules may allow it to develop services for such content. It’s like creating a competitor to OnlyFans to increase revenue.
According to the company document released by Reuters in 2022, about 13% of posts on the platform already contained explicit material. Since then, the amount of such content has obviously increased, especially due to the proliferation of pornbots.
Although the terms of use now officially allow adult content, the fight against violators will not be easy. In January this year, the platform was flooded with candid images of Taylor Swift created by artificial intelligence, and it was not immediately possible to stop their spread.
