HID Global, a leader in identity solutions, has acquired Sewio, a Czech provider of Ultra-Wideband Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) platforms for asset management, intralogistics, and improved equipment effectiveness. The deal will allow it to expand HID's RTLS portfolio, particularly in asset tracking in automotive and manufacturing industries.

  • Sewio was established in 2014. Its headquarters are located in Brno, Czech Republic. Sewio’s UWB RTLS platform is made up of expert services, software, and hardware. 
  • Two devices make up the hardware: Tags, which are signal transmitters used for asset tracking, and Anchors, which are signal receivers used to receive signals from Tags.The software component consists of a cloud-based software that provides business analytics, including device care and track and trace capabilities, and an all-in-one on-premise platform that facilitates seamless platform setup, maintenance, and control.

Acquisition details

Following the deal, Sewio became part of HID's Identification Technologies Business Area. In order to enhance its offering, the Sewio solution will combine with HID's Internet of Things Services (IOTS) Business Unit, gaining access to HID's global sales network and other resources.

With the support of Sewio's technology and knowledge, HID will be able to better assist its manufacturing and automotive clients in optimising their smart factory and warehousing operations.
