MIXRIFT, a Romanian-founded mixed reality gaming startup, has raised €1.5 million in a pre-seed investment round co-led by Underline Ventures, Outsized Ventures, and SOSV. The round also brings together a diverse range of gaming investors.
About MixRift
- MixRift was co-founded by CEO Bobby Voicu (previously CEO of social games studio MavenHut), CPO David Pripas (formerly creative director at Augmented Studios) and CTO Andrei Vaduva (previously lead engineer at Green Horse Games). All three of them worked together at MavenHut Games in the past.
- The startup has a unique approach to developing games that are easy to pick up yet deeply immersively. The company believes that, with wearables that are as much computing devices as they are gaming, mixed reality will appeal to a wider set of users.
- MixRift has already released two titles: Fractured, on Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro, and Hell Horde on Meta Quest only. It has more titles in development due to release this year.
Investment details
Outsized Ventures and Underline Ventures co-led the round, supported by SOSV who have invested in only a few gaming companies in over five years, and a number of unnamed angel investors.
- Underline Ventures, founded in 2022 in Bucharest, collaborates with Eastern European founders who are developing high-growth startups with global ambitions at the earliest stages. The company invests in seed stages and can assist in finding investors, with an average cheque of €500,000.
- Outsized Ventures, a London-based venture capital fund, manages a portfolio of European investments.
- SOSV is a global venture capital firm that provides investment in deep tech startup programs, including IndieBio and HAX, with locations in New York City, Newark, and San Francisco.
MixRIFT's team is dedicated to quickly prototyping games, launching them in the market, and gathering user feedback to improve titles that resonate with audiences, with this investment demonstrating the backers’ support and understanding of the company’s philosophy.
