Bloody Bohemia, Treasures of Hawaii, and new Civilization. 7 new game releases to play in February

After a quiet January, February 2025 kicks off with a series of high-profile and long-awaited game releases. At the beginning of the month, the second part of the realistic medieval story Kingdom Come: Deliverance will be released: no elves, magic or fairies, just a hard life of tavern fights and bloody revenge. Among the new releases, Sid Meier's Civilization VII is definitely the most high-profile (and most expensive for gamers) release.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

February 4 2025 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a true gift for those who love the Middle Ages, but are tired of mixing it with fantasy. No dragons, magic or monsters - just real human blood, weapons and problems. Deliverance 2 is a first-person role-playing game and a direct sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2018, which will complete the story of the first part.

The events of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 take place in fifteenth-century Bohemia. The protagonist of the game is Henry of Skalica, the son of a blacksmith, who wants to take revenge on the Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund and his allies for the destruction of his village.

The developers promise a twice as big world, but it will not be seamless, but will consist of two separate regions for exploration: The Czech Paradise (a real place, a nature reserve) with a number of different natural landscapes; and the city of Kutná Hora (also a real city in the Czech Republic in the region of Bohemia).

Rift of the NecroDancer

February 5 (PC)

In 2015, the American studio Brace Yourself Games released Crypt of the NecroDancer, a roguelike rhythm game in which the player has to move through different levels of the dungeon. The main feature, however, was that you had to do it to the beat of music by American composer Danny Baranowski.

This year, the story returns in a new game. Drawn into a strange new world, Cadence must engage in a musical battle with the monsters pouring through the rift. Each monster has unique behavior. For example, bats that change direction when attacked. Learn the pattern of each new annoying enemy to keep the music going.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII

February 11 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PC)

The long-awaited release of Sid Meier's Civilization VII will take place on February 11th. American studio Firaxis Games announced its development back in February 2023. The first official announcement was made at the Summer Game Fest 2024.

Currently, it is known that the game will offer 29 civilizations that players can develop, divided into the ancient (for example, Egypt, Greece, and Persia), the Age of Discovery (Spain, Incas, Mongolia), and the modern era (America, Mexico, Siam). However, the developers plan to add more options. Civilization VII will allow players to choose their own leaders and civilizations, and civilizations will be able to favor leaders with certain attributes. Players will be able to change their civilization throughout the game while maintaining their territory. The criteria for who qualifies as a "leader" has also been updated to include philosophers, religious leaders, and scientists who were not heads of state.

The game will not have a Ukrainian translation, voice acting, or subtitles. At the same time, Civilization VII will be fully translated into Russian, despite the fact that it is not available for users in Russia. However, the developers could not completely ignore Russia, so Firaxis Games announced the "return" of Catherine II on its X page. She will lead the "Russian civilization" and will have the characterization of Dusha. This decision was strongly criticized by Ukrainian players.

Avowed

February 18 (PC, Xbox Series X/S)

The new AAA project of the American studio Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas, Dungeon Siege III) was first announced at the Xbox Games presentation in July 2020. This is the studio's first major project after its acquisition by Microsoft in 2018. The game will take place in a shared universe with another of the studio's games, Pillars of Eternity.

Avowed is a role-playing action game with both first- and third-person gameplay options. Unlike most fantasy games, there is no clear division into classes, and the player can combine warrior and mage skills at the same time. You will also be able to expand your party with companions, with an active party of up to three characters. You play as an emissary of the Aedir Empire who arrives in a remote corner of the world of Eora (Living Lands) to investigate a mysterious epidemic. Not everyone is happy to see you, but you have no choice.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage Tape 1

February 18 (PC, PS5, XSX/S)

A new adventure game from Don't Nod Montréal, where every action or choice you make has a direct impact on how events unfold and how the story ends. It tells the story of four friends who meet for the first time in the summer of 1995 after 27 years of separation. They will find out what led to such a long separation and what secrets their past holds. The first part of the game will be released on February 18th, and we will be able to complete the story with the release of the second part on April 15th.

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza's in Hawaii

February 21 (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, XSX/S)

A new game in the Like A Dragon series, Pirate Yakuza's in Hawaii from Japanese studio Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is a direct sequel to Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth 2024 and focuses on Goro Majima, who, stranded on an island and losing his memories, must now lead his pirate crew to discover a hidden treasure.

Monster Hunter Wilds

February 28 (PC, PS5, XSX/S)

Capcom's new RPG action game in the Monster Hunter series will be released on February 28th. This is the sequel to Monster Hunter: World 2018. To develop Wilds, Capcom is using its own RE engine, and according to the developers, when a large number of players join the game, the team will collect suggestions and comments on necessary improvements.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you play as a hero who travels to the Forbidden Lands, a desolate area inhabited by monsters, to find a missing expedition group. The game world is divided into several biomes, each of which is a large open area for exploration; you can also receive quests, cook food, restock supplies, and craft new equipment and weapons in the Hunter's Village, which you can access directly from the open world.
