Kyiv not Kiev
Interestingly, the news about the smartphone codenamed Kiev started to be commented on with the hashtag #KyivNotKiev.
It bears reminding that on June 17, 2019, the U.S. Board on Geographic Names decided to replace the spelling of the Ukrainian capital from “Kiev” to “Kyiv” in the international base.
The decision was also preceded by the online campaign #CorrectUA of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Center for Strategic Communications, which began in 2018. During this campaign, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appealed to foreign media to correct the spelling of the city.
