German startup Gitpod, an open-source developer platform automating the provisioning of ready-to-code developments environments, has raised €2.5 million investments in a Seed round led by Vienna-based VC fund Speedinvest. Crane Venture Partners and Vertex Ventures US also participated, reports EU-Startups.

Gitpod is an open-source solution that is aimed to streamline developers’ daily routine by automating manually setting up and maintaining local dev environments. As the company maintains, it works with almost any cloud provider and code-hosting platform including GitLab, GitHub Enterprise, and Bitbucket.

The startup also announced the partnership with GitLab, an open core company which develops complete DevOps platform, delivered as a single application, and building a native Gitpod integration in GitLab’s UI. It will simplify code reviews, bug fixes, building new features and exploring new projects processes and increase development efficiency.

The raised funds will be invested in further refinement of the Gitpod platform, as well as to expand startup’s open-source community and ecosystem partnerships.
