Hamburg-based online marketplace for sports sponsoring Sponsoo has closed a €1.4 million Series A funding round led by Andreas Mihalovits, a German business angel. Existing private investors Thorsten Mattig, Head of Global Sponsorship at BMW, Claas Nieraad, CEO of New Commercial Room VC company, as well as the IFB Innovationsstarter Hamburg also joined the round, der brutkasten reports.

Sponsoo develops a platform that connects professional and non-professional athletes, sports teams and clubs of more than 300 different sports with sponsors. Its database with portfolios already consists of over 10,000 athletes, teams, clubs, and more than 3,000 sponsors. According to the CTO pf Christian Kaspar Sponsoo, thanks to the large database sponsors can easily identify the ideal sponsorship targets. 

“All athletes are rated according to the same objective criteria. Regardless of whether it is a village club or Bundesliga club, eSports or football, amateur athletes, sports influencers or Olympic champions – the data is decisive,” Kaspar told.

The proceeds will be allocated to the further platform developing and grow in the DACH region, as well as on international markets the Sponsoo is gradually discovering for itself, the CEO Andreas Kitzing emphasized.
