Lithuanian Biomatter Designs, a pioneer of the technologies for generative protein design at the intersection of synthetic biology and AI, has raised $607K in seed funding. The round was led by Practica Capital with participation from 70V and angel investors, EU.Startups reports.

Founded in 2018 by CEO Laurynas Karpus, Biomatter Designs develops experimental tools for the efficient collection of biological data. The company has developed a machine-driven platform designed for the next generation of protein computational constructs. It analyzes a huge amount of data on natural proteins to study the complex rules governing the function of proteins.

The raised money will be used to further develop the company’s protein design technology and product pipeline.

“Our company is striving to shift the paradigm in protein engineering” – says Laurynas Karpus, the founder and CEO of Biomatter Designs. “We are moving from classical protein discovery process to well-predictable computational protein design. This is where our technology steps in to intelligently augment the protein engineering process, allowing us to generate new proteins right from the first atom. When it comes to solving problems in healthcare or environmental sectors, we can’t afford to waste time.”
