Meta will use DressX clothes for its Avatar Store, Vogue Business reports. It is a Ukrainian startup that creates digital clothing.

  • DressX was launched in 2020 in the US by two Ukrainians, Daria Shapovalova and Natalia Modenova. The startup DressX develops a store where you can choose and buy digital clothes.
  • The first collection of DressX and Meta was rolled out on July 19, and others will be launched on a monthly basis.
  • Although the Avatar Store is only available in the US, Canada, Thailand, and Mexico, some DressX looks will also be available in the brand’s store.

“The opportunity of the scale that we can achieve with Meta is great. For us, it is a little victory because when we started, there was nothing [for digital fashion]. The goal is to make it easier to wear digital fashion. We want people to wear collections from DressX on Snapchat, Meta, Roblox and more,” says DressX co-founder Daria Shapovalova.

DressX outfits for avatars are sold as complete looks and cost from $2.99 to $8.99 at launch. Meta will also offer free outfit options. Once purchased, people can use their avatars on Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Quest in messages and feed posts. Meta also said it plans to allow independent creators to sell their designs, a feature that DressX already has on its platform.

DressX raised $1.3 million in funding in September 2021. And in July of the same year, DressX announced it had raised another $2 million during its seed round. The startup’s team plans to spend the funds raised on scaling and developing sales across multiple channels.
