As previously reported, the Turkish company Baykar, known for its Bayraktar TB2, decided to build the Baykar drone plant for the production of attack drones in Ukraine. Now, Baykar CEO Haluk Bayraktar has told Defense Express that the plant in Ukraine will produce almost all available models of unmanned aerial vehicles, not just TB2.
Baykar CEO Haluk Bayraktar also noted that the total area of the Baykar center in Ukraine will be more than 30,000 square meters. And the number of Ukrainian engineers and technicians who will be involved in the production of drones will be exceed 300 people.
The plant will be able to assemble not only TB2 models, which are currently actively used in the Russian-Ukrainian war, but also other Baykar products. That includes the heavy drone Akıncı and the Kızılelma unmanned fighter jet (you can read more about it by following the link).
Why is this important?
Modern warfare has shown the effectiveness of drones and other unmanned aircraft. But Ukraine still does not have enough such weaponry. Many reconnaissance drones are relatively easy to buy, as they are often simple modifications of civilian versions.
With combat drones, like the Baykar TB2, the situation is more complicated, since their production is often scheduled years in advance. The ability to have production on the territory of one’s country is a great advantage in such demanding conditions.
In addition, with the decision to open a new plant, Baykar is making a rather powerful investment in Ukraine with faith not just in victory, but also in the security of this investment in the future.
