Vitalik Buterin, one of the creators of the Ethereum cryptocurrency, which is the second most popular after Bitcoin, visited Kyiv. There he took part in the Kyiv Tech Summit Web3 hackathon held at UNIT.City. The editors at AIN.Capital attended the meeting, and now share what the crypto billionaire talked about during the event.
Vitalik Buterin came to Kyiv for a day to attend the Kyiv Tech Summit.
Kyiv Tech Summit is a three-day Web3 hackathon held from September 6 to 9 in the UNIT.City innovation park. Unchain Ukraine, the charity blockchain fund, organized the event together with Ukraine DAO, the metauniverse Atlantis World, and activists of the Web3 community. The purpose of the hackathon is to develop software solutions that can help Ukraine during the war and after its victory.
During the meeting, the creator of Ethereum said that it was his first time in Kyiv. He attended the Kyiv Tech Summit due to his interest and admiration for the fact that such an event is taking place in the capital of a country in a state of war, which has united the powerful Web3 community from all over the world.
“This is incredible. Be brave like Ukraine, right? I wanted to see myself what kind of projects and applications based on Ethereum technology are being created here, to get to know the people behind them,”
Vitalik Buterin said.
Buterin once again expressed his support for the Ukrainians and emphasized that he is following everything that is happening in Ukraine from the very beginning of the full-scale war.
He repeated his stance on this issue on Twitter and in numerous interviews with Western publications. In particular, on February 24, the day Russian troops invaded the territory of our country, the crypto-billionaire wrote on Twitter that he was upset by Putin’s decision to start the war and called for all possible support for Ukrainians. And in April 2022, the Ethereum developer transferred 1,500 ETH to support Ukraine, which is the equivalent of about $5 million.
At the same time, Vitalik Buterin noted that Ukraine has great potential and opportunities to become a Web3 hub, because it was able to create an active Web3 community:
“I think that Ukraine may well become the next Web3 hub. The Ethereum Foundation has hubs in Boulder, Berlin, Singapore, as communities have grown organically there. A country can become a Web3 hub if its people are actively interested in this technology and decide to make a big contribution to its development. So yes, absolutely. Ukraine has both the capabilities and the determination for this,”
the creator of Ethereum emphasized.
Why is it important?
It is the seventh month of the full-scale war that was started by the terrorist state Russia on February 24. Currently, the support of world technological leaders is extremely important for our country. As the Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized during the Kyiv Tech Summit, it is not only about financial support, but also media support. It inspires other world-renowned entrepreneurs to come to Ukraine, help Ukrainians, And this does not let us forget that in this war not only the territorial integrity of our state is at stake, but also the world democracy and security as a whole.
