The Riga-based company that develops robotic technology for wind turbine blade maintenance services Aerones has secured $38.9 million in a Series A round to accelerate the global scaling of its product, due to TechCrunch. The investment was led by undisclosed investors.

  • Aerones is a technology company that builds heavy-lifting drones that can lift up to 200 kg for rescue, delivery purposes, and tethered solution for industrial cleaning and firefighting. Aerones’ remote-operated robots clean towers and blades by blasting them with a liquid detergent, while funnels beneath the blades collect the mucked-up liquid for reuse. The robots also inspect turbine systems with cameras and ultrasound scanners.
  • Aerones claims that its solution has already cleaned more than 5,000 turbines across 19 countries.
  • Aerones works with nine of the world’s ten largest wind companies, including Siemens Gamesa, Enel, GE, and Vestas. In May 2022, the company raised $9 million in a seed funding round from French investment firm Future Positive Capital and Estonian Change Ventures.
  • The fresh round was led by dozens of undisclosed investors and will be used for scaling up its operations. Aerones also plans to raise at least $2.5 million more. The details of the agreement were not disclosed.
