Norwegian digital cooking course startup Chew has acquired Finnish player Carrot Kitchen. The amount of the deal is not disclosed. As the result, Chew can now consolidate itself in the Nordic market before further expanding, EU-Startups reports.
- Founded in 2021 by Mano Rashidi and Silje Rosness Dahle, Chew develops an interactive cooking platform tailored for the younger generation of 6-14-year-old kids. The platform fun combines cooking courses with educational content and games. Its goal is to help develop cooking skills and nurture a generation more educated about nutrition through gamification and digital tech.
“We see huge interest in cooking on SoMe (TikTok, Youtube etc) towards kids. Our goal is to harness this interest with clear step-by-step videos and a pinch of gamification to create journey-based learning. Much like any game where you start at Level 1 and want to advance to the next level. Food influencers are on the rise and Chew’s goal is to be an interactive platform where the users can increase their interest in cooking, food, and recipes,”
Mano Rashidi, Founder and CEO of Chew, explains the startup.
- Launched in 2020 by Olli Freese, Piritta Koivisto, and Emmi Kuusikko, Carrot Kitchen is a Helsinki-based cooking app developer. The platform combines pedagogics and food into a gamified mobile app to teach lifelong cooking skills. It targets 6-13 years-old kids and so far has reached 40,000 downloads worldwide.
“The Team behind Carrot Kitchen has developed an amazing app and we look forward to integrating it to our offering with our mission of inspiring and educating kids around the world towards healthier and more sustainable eating habits,”
Mano Rashidi comments.
- As the result of the deal, Chew wants to enter the global markets, already becoming a leading player in the Nordics. The plan is to continue this trajectory and expand into the UK, US, and wider European markets over the coming years.
