Helsingin Sanomat, the largest newspaper in Finland, took a creative approach to the distribution of true news in Russia. It put the info in a special Counter-Strike: Global Offensive map. As reported by Kotaku, when the player dies on the de_voyna map, they can find a room that contains information about the war crimes of the Russian army in Ukraine.
- Last year, the Russian parliament ruled that spreading “false information” is a criminal offense punishable by 15 years in prison. As a result, several Russian media outlets shut down, and the BBC left the country.
- So Finland’s largest newspaper Helsingin Sanomat paid two map designers to create a map with a hidden room detailing the horrors of the war in Ukraine. Helsingin Sanomat released the map on May 2.
- When a player dies on the de_voyna map, they are free to roam the space and find an underground room. Once in, players can see newspaper headlines about the war in Ukraine, including the Bucha massacre where several mass graves were found.
- The map shows the places in Ukraine that were attacked by Russian soldiers, and the table shows the number of Russians killed. Another station tells the story of a Ukrainian Yurii Glodan, whose family was killed by a rocket attack while he was out shopping for groceries.
As AIN.Capital noticed, the de_voyna map has already become the most popular custom map in the last week in the CS:GO workshop. You can download it by following the link.
