The developer of Cyberpunk 2077, the Polish studio CD Projekt RED, has announced that the game and its new DLC, Phantom Liberty, will receive Ukrainian localization. Ukrainian gamers have been asking the studio for this for a long time, and finally the residents of Night-City will speak Ukrainian.

  • The game’s DLC is to be released on September 26, 2023, at that time Ukrainian localization will be also be added to both the game and the DLC.
  • It will be just a text translation. There is no talk of Ukrainian dubbing yet.

“I’m incredibly happy that Ukrainian gamers will soon be able to immerse themselves in the world of Cyberpunk in our native language. We at CD PROJEKT RED wanted to show our recognition of and support for this part of our community,”

Maria Strilchuk, localization project manager, says.
  • It took the localization team more than a year to translate and adapt more than a million lines of text, including interfaces, dialogues, and in-game messages.

Why is it important?

Until recently, the Ukrainian localization was a rare thing to come across, as major game development studios usually ignored the Ukrainian-speaking community, grouping them into the Russian-speaking region. Because of the Russia invasion, more and more Ukrainian gamers are publicly asking for the translation of their favorite titles, sometimes localizing the games on their own. So it’s always welcome when the studios respond to such requests, even if three years after release.
