Helsinki-based food education startup Vegemi has raised €500,000 in funding from angel investors. The investment will be used to further develop the Vegemi application and boost its expansion.

  • Launched in 2022, Vegemi focuses on addressing inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption among children aged 3-8 through its mobile app, which utilizes XR image recognition and gamefication. Almost 3 million transactions have already been made on the Vegemi app, such as photo recognition of fresh vegetables or feeding a digital fruit to Vegemi.
  • Vegemi is a fictitious bacteria, living in the stomach, which can be used to teach children about the health benefits of fruits and vegetables, appropriate to their age, and encourages tasting new fruits and vegetables through feeding their own Vegemi.
  • The startup claims, its vision is to create a more equal, healthy, and sustainable world where kids have an understanding of the link between nutrition and health.

Vegemi’s superpowers are based on health claims approved by the Great Britain nutrition and health claims (NHC) register about the health effects of nutrients contained in food. We have researched the nutrient contents of fruits and vegetables using a database called Finel, and with these have come up with fun superpowers for Vegemi,

the startup’s team commented on the solution.

The funding will support the company’s local and international expansion, as well as the development of its app.
