Starship Technologies, an Estonian-founded company building a network of autonomous delivery robots, has raised €83.6 million in a round co-led by Plural and Iconical. The new funding will fuel the company’s global expansion.

  • Founded by Ahti Heinla, Janus Friis, and Alastair Westgarth in 2014, Starship Technologies is a robotics company building fleets of self-driving robots designed to deliver goods. Each Starship robot can run for 18 hours fully charged. According the startup, since its launch, Starship robots have managed to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by almost 1.8 million kg. 
  • Currently, Starship’s headquarters are in San Francisco, the company also has engineering offices in Estonia and Finland, while its UK presence includes London and Milton Keynes. The company also has partnerships with ​Bolt​, Co-Op, Aramark, Sodexo, and Chartwells.

Building a company like Starship takes at least a decade of perfecting the technology, streamlining operations and reducing costs to make last-mile autonomous delivery viable and sustainable at scale.   • Plural, a European early-stage investment fund, based in Tallinn and London, and Iconical, a VC investment firm based in the United Kingdoms, co-led the investment round.
  • With the current funds injection, Starship Technologies has raised a total of €213.7 million since the launch of its products.

The new investment round will enable Starship to further develop its AI, tech and wireless charging infrastructure, and to expand it to more markets internationally.
