The service for creating notes and databases, Notion, will stop working in Russia on September 9, 2024. The company contributes the decision to the new package of US sanctions against Russia, according to the official statement.
From September 9, Notion will no longer provide access to the platform to users located in Russia, and all workspaces of the service with a Russian location will be closed.
On September 12, the US sanctions will come into force banning the provision of IT services to residents and businesses in the Russian Federation, including IT consulting and design services, IT support and cloud services for enterprise management software, as well as design and production software. The package was introduced in June this year.
AIN reminds our readers that in January 2023, Notion used to brag on X (Twitter) that it’s still working in Russia, which caused an outrage among the platform's users. At the time, Notion neither commented on the situation nor explained why the platform still operated in Russia despite many sanctions and companies leaving.
Earlier this month, the Russian-founded remote co-working platform Miro also said it would stop providing services in Russia and Belarus due to the sanctions. And before that, the corporate messenger Slack began to warn users from Russia about the suspension of their accounts.
