The gaming world is emerging from its summer hiatus to kick off a new season of autumn releases. There's plenty to choose this month, from the cosy sandbox Tiny Glade to the interactive horror The Casting of Frank Stone from the creators of The Dark Pictures Anthology.
Traditionally, we bring you the gaming news of September 2024.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions
September 3 (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions by Portkey Games (Warner Bros. Games) has already been released on 3rd September. The previous project in the Harry Potter universe, Hogwarts Legacy, was left without Quidditch, and players were promised a new, full-fledged game about the championship. It's worth noting that the last Quidditch-focused game, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, was released in 2003.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions allows you to create your own characters and choose one of four positions in the team: hunter, goalkeeper, defender or catcher. Unlike Hogwarts Legacy, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions has an unrealistic art style that looks more like cartoons. The game is not based on the Harry Potter film or book series, it simply exists in the same universe as them.
Frostpunk 2
September 20 (PC)
The second part of Frostpunk was supposed to be released on 25 July, but the release has been postponed to 20 September this year. This is a city-building survival game from Polish developer 11 bit studios, the first part of which was released in 2018. Frostpunk is a steampunk story in which you take on the role of a leader to rebuild and sustain a city during a global volcanic winter that has almost completely wiped out humanity.
The events of the first part took place in the 19th century, while the second part takes place in the early 20th century in New York, 30 years after the events of the original game. In the second Frostpunk, you will be able to build larger cities with different districts, each responsible for its own part of survival: providing food, energy, etc. The game has also added a sandbox mode, Utopia Builder, which can be played independently of the main story.
Tiny Glade
September 23 (PC)
Tiny Glade is a meditative sandbox from Swedish studio Pounce Light that lets you build your own castles and their surroundings, draw paths and pet sheep.
"Create beauty without management, battles or bad decisions - just relax, build castles and turn forgotten meadows into magical landscapes," the developers write.
The Casting of Frank Stone
September 3 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S)
The Casting of Frank Stone is an interactive horror drama from the British studio Supermassive Games (The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Quarry). Its events take place in the universe of the game Dead by Daylight, so unlike the studio's previous projects, it will be a single-player game.
Set in the summer of 1980 in the town of Cedar Hills, Oregon, the story follows four young directors who set out to make a horror film at a secret steel mill. As with previous games from Supermassive Games, your choices are all up to you, and only you can decide how it ends.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
September 26 (Switch)
The new instalment in the huge franchise about Princess Zelda, and the first in which you can play as Zelda herself, comes out on 26 September. Everything changes, and now it is not Link who saves the Princess and the world, but the opposite. You can do this with the help of the Tri Rod, a magical artefact that allows you to summon "echoes" - replicas of items and monsters that can be used safely (albeit for a limited number of times).
Astro Bot
September 6 (PS5)
The Japanese team Asobi has been working for a long time on a new part of Astro Bot, which will be released on the 6th of September. Astro Bot is a 3D platformer where you control the main character, a small robot called Astro Bot, using a DualSense controller. This is the third part of the robot games and the sequel to Astro's Playroom in 2020.
Wild Bastards
September 12 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S)
Wild Bastards is a new game from the studio Blue Manchu and the "spiritual successor" of another project from the studio Void Bastards. It's an FPS/strategy hybrid with tactical combat, a detailed control system and a side-scrolling campaign.
In Wild Bastards, you'll travel from planet to planet, recruiting, commanding and shooting with a team of 13 outlaws, each with their own weapons, special abilities and growth tree. On the planets, you will share the loot and arrange skirmishes, which will then turn into intense, fierce firefights.
Yars Rising
September 10 (PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch)
Enotria: The Last Song is an Italian folklore-inspired soul game from Italian indie studio Jyamma Games. The game features over 100 different enemies and a mask-based gameplay system that unlocks over 30 different fighting styles.
"The world has been captivated by Canovacchio, an endless, twisted spectacle that keeps the world in a state of artificial stasis. You are without a mask, a player free from a given role, the master of your own destiny. Defeat the powerful creators who have created this show and use the power of Ardor to free the world from stagnation. Become the Mask of Change," reads the game's description.
Age of Mythology: Retold
September 16 (XSX, PC)
Age of Mythology: Retold is a real-time strategy game developed by the American studios World's Edge and Forgotten Empires. It is a remaster of the 2002 game Age of Mythology. Age of Mythology: Retold combines elements of the original game with modern RTS design and visual effects.
Players can choose mythological gods from the Greek, Norse, Egyptian, and Atlantean pantheons and use their powers to summon powerful creatures and battle enemies.
