The game service Steam has surrendered to "Roskomnadzor", one of the main russian propaganda organs, and taken down 11 webpages previously listed in the russian register of prohibited information. In total, the platform removed over 260 materials with this “illegal” content in russia, according to the russian press and the organ.

  • In February, "Roskomnadzor" added Steam Community to the register of prohibited websites “for spreading information about methods of manufacturing narcotic drugs”. Having deleted the controversial content, the website was removed from the register.
  • Besides, russian media reports that any data mentioning the recently banned Discord was also removed from the register, which may mean that the company also complied with the requirements of the russian authorities.
  • Earlier, on October 8 Discord was announced to be blocked in russia. People think the service may be unblocked in Russia in the coming days.

Note that in June, Apple also removed all the VPN apps from its marketplace App Store in russia on the demand of  the“Roskomnadzor” federal service. VPN services help russians access websites banned by the propaganda organ, cutting off their way to other sources of information.

Also, at the beginning of the year, there was a huge failure of the Internet in russia. Problems with accessing to the websites with .ru domains were occurring among users abroad as well.
This can indicate an attempt to create a separate Internet for russia.

A number of experts point out that russian authorities have announced their plans to transfer all the users of the country to the national DNS service and assume that's exactly what could be happening.
