Openvibe, a Czech developer of smartphone software that integrates free social networks like Mastodon, Bluesky, Nostr, and Threads, has received $800,000 in a fresh investment round. Czech Founders VC is the lead investor alongside global Automattic (the powerhouse behind WordPress and Tumblr), while Tensor Ventures and Jan Široký, former CTO of Mews, also participated in the round. Tensor Ventures shared the announcement with AIN.

About Openvibe

  • Founded in 2023 by Matej Svancer, Openvibe develops a smartphone app that promises to bring together the fragmented world of open social networking.

  • The app integrates Mastodon, Bluesky, Nostr, Threads, and other networks into a user-friendly platform, enabling seamless communication and total control over social spaces.

“The problem of disgruntled and migrating social network users is particularly acute in the US, where over 100 million users have left traditional social networks for next-generation social networks such as Mastodon, Bluesky, Nostr, and Threads,” adds Matěj Švancer, the founder of Openvibe.

Investment details

Czech Founders VC led the investment round alongside global Automattic (the powerhouse behind WordPress and Tumblr), while Tensor Ventures and Jan Široký, former CTO of Mews, also participated.

  • Czech Founders VC is a “founders for founders”-style VC firm that brings together over 45 top technology founders and key operators from worldwide firms like Mews, CDN77, and Livesport.

  • Tensor Ventures is a specialized deep tech fund founded by Roman Smola, Martin Drdul, and Petr Ulvr. Notable successes include startup investments such as Tatum, Veracity Protocol, and quant QC82.

  • Jan Široký, a former software engineer and CTO of tech startup Mews, a member of Czech Founders VC and an angel investor, also joined the round.

The capital will help Openvibe to expedite product development, grow its user base, integrate with new social platforms, and strengthen its worldwide brand. The startup is currently looking for more Flutter developers in the Czech Republic to supplement its current four-person team and achieve its goals.
