Samsung surpasses Intel as top chipmaker in 2024, while global semiconductor sales reach $626B

Samsung regained the top spot among global chipmakers in 2024, overtaking both Intel and Nvidia. The Korean technology manufacturer took 10.5% of the total market, according to the Gartner report.

Samsung Electronics' revenue in 2024 reached $66.5 billion, up 62.5% from $40.9 billion in 2023.

Intel fell to the second place as its product line - AI PC and Core Ultra chipset - failed to compensate for limited success in AI accelerators and moderate business growth. Intel's semiconductor revenue remained nearly flat, growing just 0.1% in 2024.

Nvidia continues to excel, increasing its semiconductor revenue by 84% to $46 billion in 2024. It moved up two spots to the third place thanks to its success in AI technology.

The report also states that

  • Global semiconductor revenue reached $626 billion in 2024, up 18.1% from 2023.
  • Revenue from the sale of semiconductors for data centers will reach $112 billion in 2024, which is $64.8 billion more than in 2023.
  • Revenue is forecast to reach $705 billion in 2025.
  • Only eight of the top 25 semiconductor vendors will see revenue decline in 2024.
  • HBM is forecast to account for 19.2% of DRAM revenues in 2025, up from 13.6% in 2024.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian government is targeting to reach 1% of global chip production by 2030.
