The boards of directors of Nissan and Honda have decided to end merger talks. This was reported by Reuters.

According to the WSJ, the main reason is Honda's desire to make Nissan a subsidiary, which has caused dissatisfaction with Nissan's management.

According to analysts, this puts Nissan at a disadvantage, but it may not be for the better. Nevertheless, the companies will continue to cooperate in the field of electric vehicles. At the same time, Nissan will be looking for new partners to develop products and stabilize its financial position. It is said that it may cooperate with the Taiwanese company Foxconn.

Earlier, in December 2024, the automakers announced a merger plan worth $54 billion. It envisaged a merger within a holding company, in which both companies would be subsidiaries. However, Honda later decided to change the terms and offered Nissan to become its subsidiary instead of an equal structure.
