What Monster Hunter Wilds is about

Monster Hunter Wilds, a new action/RPG from Capcom, was released today, February 28th. It is the sequel to the successful Monster Hunter: World (2018). The new installment of Monster Hunter is powered by the RE Engine, which provides high-quality graphics and dynamic environmental changes. The developers promise ongoing support for the game and updates based on player feedback, including possible balance adjustments and new content.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, players are sent to the Forbidden Lands, a dangerous, nearly deserted area teeming with monsters. The goal of the journey is to find a missing expedition group. The game world consists of several unique biomes that are open for exploration. In each of them, hunters can complete quests, gather resources, and hunt various creatures. The new game is quite immersive for monster hunters: you can create new equipment, cook food, replenish supplies, while the fast travel system allows you to travel freely between the open world and the hunter's village.

Monster Hunter Wilds early reviews

At the time of writing, the sequel to Monster Hunter has received mixed reviews from players on Steam. Many players praise the game for its fascinating game world and interesting gameplay, but the majority of players complain about poor optimization and a high price.

"Very immersive game. You can cook a well-done steak on your GPU while you play and the hot blasts of air from your PC fans truly make you feel like you are in the desert. Keep a bag of sand by your desk and periodically toss handfuls of it into the air to really complete the experience," says a review by Sgt. Walker Rhymes on Steam.

So if you're a gamer with more powerful hardware, you shouldn't fear accidentaly starting fire hazards. Despite the complaints from players, the game received quite positive reviews from critics. IGN rated Monster Hunter Wilds — 8/10.

"Monster Hunter Wilds continues to smooth off the traditionally rough edges of the series in smart ways, reducing as much friction as possible that could get in the way of you grabbing any of its exceptionally fun weapons and planting them firmly in a monster’s hide. But in that quest to make Monster Hunter more approachable, Wilds has carved a little too close to the bone in some places, trimming its challenge back so much that I barely needed to dig into its in-depth equipment system at all this time to become an apex predator.

Its more flexible combat is some of the most fun I’ve had with the series, but like the blustering lighting storms of its gorgeous desert, it'll burns brightly but briefly until Capcom unleashes some real endgame beasts to challenge us," concludes Tom Marks from IGN.

You can also help the game break new records. Monster Hunter Wilds is available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S. On Steam the game is priced at:
