The European Union imposes counter-tariffs on $28 billion worth of U.S. goods. The countermeasures will take place in two stages: April 1 and April 13.
This is reported by the press service of the European Commission.
On March 12, 2025, US President Donald Trump's 25% increase in tariffs on steel and aluminum imports came into force.
The suspended tariffs cover a wide range of products, from boats to bourbon to motorcycles. The EU will also begin consultations to select other categories of goods.
Even before the official announcement of the US tariff hike, the European Commission called Trump's decision "illegal and counterproductive."
As a reminder, on March 4, 2025, tariffs of 25% for Mexico and Canada and a doubled tariff of 20% for goods from China came into effect in the US. The countries responded with counter-tariffs.
