Valve has published Steam Year in Review 2024, summarizing the work of the game marketplace platform. Despite the fact that the year was not as outstanding in terms of the number of releases as 2023, Steam still set several new records.
- In particular, the company achieved the highest revenue from new releases in the history of the platform.
- This figure includes gross revenue from game sales in the first 30 days after release, both in early access and full release formats.
- According to Valve, this figure has increased tenfold since 2014, with more than 200 new games generating at least $1 million in revenue from launch sales in 2024 (15% more than in 2023).
- In addition, Steam Deck continued to be a success, with players spending more than 330 million hours on the portable device, which is 67% more than in 2023.
- Valve also revealed the list of the most popular games on Steam Deck in 2024. It includes new hits like Balatro, Black Mythos: Wukong, and Palworld, as well as classics like Grand Theft Auto V, Halo: Master Chief Collection, and Stardew Valley.
- According to Valve, 2024 was a year of growth for Steam in general. In December, the platform surpassed the 39 million mark for the first time, and at the time of writing, this figure had reached 40 million.
- Since March 2020, when activity on the online service spiked due to COVID-19 quarantine, the maximum number of concurrent Steam users has nearly doubled.
As a reminder, Steam now issues warnings if an Early Access game has not been updated in a long time.
