GameSpot releases a documentary about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 development during the full-scale invasion

American video game publication GameSpot has created a documentary about how Ukrainian studio GSC Game World worked on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is already available on YouTube.

The film is 42 minutes long and tells stories of nine game developers. The game sold 1 million copies in just two days and has already been played by 6 million players. To talk to the developers, the GameSpot team visited the Prague office of GSC Game World. They spoke with seven employees and also recorded comments from two team members from Ukraine.

"As you'll learn in the documentary, around 200 GSC workers evacuated Ukraine due to the conflict, establishing a new office in Prague, but more than 200 stayed in Kyiv," Gamespot writes.

On October 3rd of last year, GSC Game World released a documentary about the making of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 during the war. The game was first announced in 2010 and was supposed to be released in 2012, but was canceled a year later.

Development resumed in 2018, and work on the game was interrupted first by the COVID-19 pandemic and then by the full-scale Russian invasion. After several delays, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was released on November 20th.

Critics praised the game, but also pointed out the numerous bugs. Since then, GSC Game World has released several major and minor patches to fix the problems, also promising to keep improving the game throughout its lifespan.
