The Meta AI chatbot will be rolled out in 41 countries, including the European Union and 21 territories. This will be Meta's largest global expansion, according to the company's website.
Although Meta AI has been operating in the US since 2023, it hasn't been available in Europe all this time due to a "complex regulatory system." The company will begin rolling out its artificial intelligence in the coming weeks, initially in six languages: English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and German.
How to use Meta AI
- Meta AI will be free and available across all of Mark Zuckerberg's apps, including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Initially, however, the AI will only be available as an intelligent chat feature, allowing you to chat with it, plan trips, and more. It will not be able to create or edit images.
- To try it out, users have to click on the new blue icon in Meta apps or type @MetaAI with a request in a group chat.
According to the company, its artificial intelligence is already used by more than 700 million monthly active users. This number is put into question, as arguably the most popular chatbot on the market, ChatGPT has just over 180.5 million monthly active users, according to the last data recorded.
Meta confirmed to TechCrunch that the version of the AI assistant launched in Europe has not been trained on local user data. Therefore, it will not notify users or ask for their consent, as it claims the technology did not use their information for training.
