Estonian ride-hailing unicorn Bolt has acquired Danish taxi startup Viggo, in a strategic move to expand its presence in regulated European markets. This acquisition allows Bolt to quickly launch and scale ride-hailing services in Denmark, complementing its existing e-bike rentals in Copenhagen. Sifted first reported on the matter.
Acquisition details
Bolt has acquired Viggo for an undisclosed amount in the company’s first-ever acquisition deal.
-
Founded in 2013 by Markus Villig in Tallinn, Bolt is a mobility company, providing ride-hailing, scooter and car rental services, food and grocery delivery, and corporate mobility solutions.
-
Bolt has operations in over 50 countries and 600 cities to over 200 million lifetime customers, including in Ukraine and most Eastern European countries.
-
The company seeks to accelerate the transition from owned cars to shared mobility, offering better alternatives for every use case.
Bolt already has a strong presence in Denmark through its e-bike rental service. The introduction of taxis creates a multi-modal transport ecosystem, where customers can seamlessly transition between e-bikes and electric rides, providing an immediate boost in demand for Viggo drivers.
