Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has updated its large-scale V3 language model, according to Reuters. The company has released the V3-0324 update on the Hugging Face platform without making an official announcement.
The latest update shows significant improvements in reasoning and programming over its predecessor. Benchmark tests have shown increased performance across many technical metrics.
In January, DeepSeek surpassed ChatGPT to become the most popular free app in the US App Store. Its R1 AI model was reported to have demonstrated OpenAI levels, stunning the industry and shaking up Wall Street.
In February, the Chinese startup had to restrict access to its API service due to a lack of server capacity caused by high demand.
But along with its insane popularity, the Chinese company's AI is also being treated with caution. Wiz, an American cybersecurity company, has exposed correspondence with the DeepSeek AI bot and other confidential data in the public domain. And a number of countries have banned its use in government agencies or in general, fearing a threat to national security.
