The Japanese company Sony has announced a price hike of its PlayStation 5 console by about 25% in Europe and the UK, ahead of a likely price increase in the US. The price of the more expensive PS5 Pro version will not change.

Australia and New Zealand will also be affected by the decision. The reason is inflation and the "difficult economic situation." Starting today, April 14, the PS5 will cost €500 in Europe and £430 pounds in the United Kingdom.

US President Donald Trump's massive tariffs on imports to the United States have sent stock markets into a shock state, as American consumers prepare for higher prices on a wide range of goods.

Earlier, Bloomberg analysts predicted that Sony's consoles and the new Switch 2 console from another Japanese company, Nintendo, would grow by 30%, suggesting that such a change would entail price revisions around the world.
