OpenAI introduces new AI models - o3 and o4-mini. They are capable of "thinking" with images
OpenAI has introduced two new artificial intelligence models: o3 and o4-mini, which the company claims are its most powerful reasoning tools to date. The o3 model is positioned as the most powerful for reasoning, while the o4-mini is a lighter and faster version that demonstrates efficiency given its size and cost.
The key innovation is the ability of models to use images in the reasoning process. According to OpenAI, models can now not only "see" images, but also integrate them directly into the logical chain of problem solving. This opens up new possibilities for analyzing sketches, diagrams, or whiteboard images, for example. In addition, models can zoom in and out or rotate images to fit their own thinking.

The new models also support all ChatGPT tools, from image creation to web browsing and Python coding. Starting today, the o3, o4-mini and o4-mini-high are available for ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Team users.
The day before, OpenAI introduced a new line of GPT-4.1 artificial intelligence models, including GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and their first-ever nanomodel, GPT-4.1 nano.
