By the end of 2025, Google Assistant will no longer be available on most smartphones and will disappear from app stores. Google announced in a blog post that most users will be migrated to Gemini in the coming months.
- For those whose Android devices do not meet the minimum system requirements to run Gemini, Google Assistant functionality will remain unchanged.
- The update will affect tablets, car systems, headsets, smartwatches, and home devices, including speakers, displays, and TVs.
- Google noted that it will share more information with users in the coming months, but until then, Google Assistant will continue to work on the aforementioned devices.
Gemini was launched last year and is already available in more than 40 languages and more than 200 countries. New features include Gemini Live for multi-modal conversations and Deep Research for personalized research.
Google notes that it continues to improve the everyday Gemini experience, especially for users accustomed to Google Assistant, by adding support for features such as playing music, setting timers, and performing actions from the lock screen.
As a reminder, Google has expanded access Deep Research in Gemini for all users. It can now be used for free in more than 45 languages without a Gemini Advanced subscription.
